Going OFF the grid/ purpose, burpees and walking
Going OFF the grid
I'm going camping for a few days so I won't be online. I WILL be writing though.
Daily writing is a key component of my life, so I will have a pen and paper in my backpack.
I'll be sure to come back with something to share with you.
That being said, what are you training today?
How are you challenging yourself? Mentally AND physically.
Yesterday I took a long walk in the heat with a backpack on.
That was a mental test. See how far I could go when feeling uncomfortable in the heat.
The mental and physical become ONE as you train to become the strongest version of yourself.
Plan B
Heading into the gym this morning my plan was to do Trap-bar Deadlifts for my strength training workout.
The only trap-bar in the gym was being used.
First challenge of the day.
Now what?
On to plan B, which for me was Front Squats.
How do you handle a situation where your "perfect plan" falls apart?
You gotta be able to adapt and evolve.
Find another way to achieve your mission.
These moments pop up all the time, testing your resolve.
It could be in the gym, the kitchen, at a party, in a work meeting etc..
How do you respond to life when you get knocked off center?
Have a Mission
It helps to know what the big picture is.
For me this morning it was about getting in some lower body strength training with free weights.
That mission gives me some flexibility, but also not TOO much so I lose focus on the objective.
Some of the most productive times in my life have been when I had a clear mission.
No matter what avenue you are engaged in, it helps to know what you are trying to achieve.
Having that sense of purpose gives you drive and commitment to reach the final destination.
Often this frees you up to enjoy the process along the way to the goal.
It's not always about getting to the achievement as quick as possible to seek out another goal.
It may be cliche but I believe that it's MORE about who you BECOME in the process of achieving a mission.
The changes that occur within you, that give you new strength to handle whatever life throws at you.
That's the bigger picture of a goal, for me.
Burpee + walking challenge?
I mentioned the other day about taking up new challenges.
A few have caught my attention.
One is a burpee challenge; 100 reps a day.
The other is a walking challenge: 50 miles in 3 days.
They seem tough but doable.
Everyone hates burpees, I'm no exception.
Walking is easy right?
Yes and no.
I walked 8 miles yesterday in just over 2 hours.
It was a good test.
Now I know 50 miles in 3 days is a challenge not to take lightly.
If you break it up equally, each day would be about 16.5 miles. This would take approximately 4 hours, if you are walking at a 15 minute per mile pace.
The mental aspect is what intrigues me the most.
Walking is not hard in itself but who walks for 4-5 hours + in a day?
No one I know.
What do you think?
Ready to take up some new challenges?
