Being Consistent With Your Strength Training Program
One of the most common challenges I hear is how to remain consistent with your strength training program.
This includes nutrition, workouts, sleep etc..
What's the solution?
Here's a few ideas for you-
1- Pick a Program that EXCITES You
You don't have to do anything you don't want to. Of course, you need to do some of those exercises you don't enjoy, or work the muscles you don't care about. But what you should focus your attention on is doing what you enjoy.
If you feel strong bench pressing and you like it and you don't have injuries that prevent you from benching without pain, then by all means, include the holy BENCH in your plan.
Being excited about your program will go a long way towards keeping you motivated. You will think about the workout during the day and imagine breaking a new personal best on some lift.
2- Include Variety
I'm all for simplicity and minimalist training. Squats, presses, rows, bodyweight movements etc..but you may crave some variety. There are some guys who can stick to a few exercises and be content. If you are one of them, great. But if you get bored and want some variety, there's nothing wrong with mixing it up.
You don't have to get too crazy either. Switching from a squat to front squat or from lunges to step-ups may be all the change you need. Try some new exercises and see for yourself. Don't hold yourself back or think there's only ONE way to train. There are tons of ways to get strong and fit. Find yours.
3- Plan To Succeed
Take the little steps necessary to succeed. Example- preparing your gym bag the night before. Making 3 days of meals on Sunday afternoon and putting them in containers in the fridge.
There are so many distractions. Make sure you help yourself succeed by these seemingly insignificant actions that are actually HUGE in terms of keeping you on track.
Find a few tricks that will help you in this regard and do them every day.
Habits take some time to form. Don't get discouraged if you don't get it in a week. Keep at it and build from where you are.
Don't let anyone or anything stop you!
Now go hit the gym.
