Overcoming Resistance by Waking Up Early

I used to pass out at 4 a.m.

Now, I WAKE UP at that time.

Back when I was a rebellious teenager and early 20-something, I hated the idea of getting up early.

It was lame. It's what the sheep do. Follow along, get up at the same time as everyone else, go sit in traffic on the way to a boring 9-5 desk job...

In my mind, I was being a rebel by staying out late and sleeping in 'til noon.

At the same time, my dad would be up very early.

He wasn't hitting the snooze and running out the door at the last minute to get to work five minutes late...

But I didn't see that. I was at that age where I knew everything and I was a rebel damnit!

Dad was authority. Even if he was right or living in his own way which was not the way of the mediocre man.

Fast-forward to now.

I'm 39 years of age. Some days I get up at 3:50 a.m.

And I like it.

Yes, it sucks for a few minutes...

Yes, I'd rather stay in my cozy bed.

But that moment where I DECIDE to overcome that little weakness... that moment is a signal to myself that I am starting my day STRONG.

By overcoming resistance.

Overcoming that natural urge to stay in our comfort.

That dangerous zone of comfort that keeps us complacent, stagnant and makes us SOFT.

Every single day we are given these tiny moments.

We choose how we will respond.

Do we let each moment win? Making us softer day by day...

Or do we push back into the resistance.. getting stronger and building habits that enhance our mindset?

A mindset that is designed by us. Created by our daily habits. The actions WE TAKE.

Sure, you can get plenty of work done at night.

Some people are more productive/creative at night.

I used to think that was me too.

I'm not talking about getting up early for a job because you have to.

This is about pushing yourself to get up early to work on your self.

To get in a workout.

To write out your goals and visions.

To meditate.

To go for a walk and clear your mind.

To read something powerful and inspiring instead of turning on the BS news.

This is about YOU choosing to push yourself out of comfort, into temporary discomfort.

To overcome resistance.

To harden up.

Push back against gravity and TIME.

Those realities that we cannot escape.

BUT we CAN take action to overcome and become stronger.

Physically AND mentally.

They go hand-in-hand.

If you ever doubted the power of getting up early, doubt no more.

Start by getting up 15 minutes earlier than normal.

Do something productive.

Work on your dream.

Go for a brisk walk.

Write to clear your mind and check in with yourself and your TRUE purpose in life.

Get in a quick workout.

OVERCOME RESISTANCE.
