Vision,action, and achievement
I bet you have reminders on your phone and maybe in a calendar or post-it notes.
They might be for tasks at work or errands to run or your grocery list..
Beyond those everyday reminders, do you have any that speak to your goals. Notes to yourself about your dreams and visions for what you want to accomplish in life?
It just hit me right now as I started writing this post, which I had no idea what I was going to write as I sat down with this laptop..
What struck me was a story I have to share. I’ve never told it before.
It’s about a reminder that I made sure to give myself each and every day.
Back when I was frustrated with my job and my position in life, I had an idea…a dream.. a goal and a vision.. it spoke to me.. it got me excited and made me nervous..
I could see it in my mind.. what was to come but had yet to exist..
What I could see in my mind was myself working as a trainer.. in a small room.. with a trap bar, bench and squat rack..
At one point I found an image that matched my vision. I printed it out and stuck it on my door. Every day I looked at it.
That vision came true. I’m living it today.
Of course there were many challenges along the way. That’s life.
What’s important is that you feed your mind with strong, empowering thoughts of what you want to achieve.
No matter what the goal is, no matter how big or small or crazy or unrealistic or off-the-wall.
If your feel STRONGLY about it, and it won’t go away, then you know it’s alive and well and you need to pursue it.
The key is to never let it out of your mind for too long.
Every day you want to visualize yourself achieving the goal.
I first learned this from the spiritual teacher, author Wayne Dyer in one of his books. Check him out if you have never heard of him. His book “Wishes Fulfilled” changed my life.
In the book he quoted Henry David Thoreau numerous times. Here’s the quote that is most relevant to our subject today,
“if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.”
I’ve always been drawn to Thoreau’s writing and his story of living in the cabin in the woods to get into union with nature and his true self.
That quote, more than any other, really hit me. I knew there was something going on that I couldn’t put my finger on.
The mind has so much power to influence us in whatever direction we choose. If you want to achieve something it would be foolish to not take advantage of this mind we are given.
You have to take a ton of actions to make your dreams and goals come true, no doubt about it. BUT, you also need to see it before you can touch it with your hands.
It can be a challenge to imagine something when it’s not “real” to you just yet.
There’s a million examples of people doing it. Just look around at anything that was ever invented.
That creation came from an idea.. an imagination.. a thought that grew into a complete image and was pursued with intensity and persistence.
Listen to your deep inner self telling you what you truly want out of life.
See it in your mind. Visualize it in detail every day. Feel it. How will it feel when you achieve it?
More detail the better.
Do it over and over until it manifests.
Action and vision are much more powerful than one without the other.
The photo above is of Las Cruces, New Mexico. It’s a place I dream of.. maybe I go to visit, maybe I live there someday..who knows..
But what I do know is I look at it daily and picture myself there.. and I’m taking action to get there..
Vision + action = realization.
The mind has so much untapped potential, the more I realize what it can do, the more I realize there’s EVEN MORE.
Use it! It’s yours.
Keep improving every day.
