When you let the demon out of the closet

"You have to stop coddling him Maureen"

I was upstairs in my room when I heard dad say those words to my mom.

Honestly, it wasn't the first time. Or the last.

Moms want to protect us, no doubt about it. It's normal and healthy.

Some of us have dads that are tough on us. (mine was- RIP dad)

We don't like it.

You don't like when someone is tough on you and calls you out on your shit, right?

So pop was constantly pushing me. Never letting me "off the hook"  and as a sensitive kid, all I wanted was to be liked and not criticized and to have fun.

the sensitive part is important, I'll tell you why in a moment..

I didn't want to be pushed even if it was the best thing for me..

For years, I struggled with wanting to be liked. The worst thing for me was being criticized or judged.

And I wished I was tougher. That I didn't care.. but I did..

None of us like to feel that we aren't good enough. Or that we are less. Whatever that may be..

Here's where the sensitive part comes into play- that insecurity haunted me for years.

So what?

Here's the KEY:

Your insecurities don't go away on their own

I realized I was a slave to my insecurity.

I cared WAY too much what people thought about me.

Why does it matter?

Because it stops you from fulfilling your true potential.

You don't say things you really want to say. Or you hold back.

That fear keeps you from true growth.

maybe your insecurity is not the same as mine, but I'm willing to bet that you have at least one that you haven't dealt with.

And as you know, they don't just go away on their own..

You have to let them demons out of the closet and go to WORK on them.

I cared way too much about what people would say about me. I had to face that head-on.

Whatever your demon is, you have to face it. Let it out. Attack it.

It's a process, for sure. It doesn't happen overnight.

It's like fitness in a way.

The way I look at it, at least.

Every day show up and do something physical.

You don't want to. It's going to be uncomfortable. But you show up and do it anyway.

Each day you grow. There will be setbacks, ups and downs.. but at the end of the week, month, year you will look back and see how far you've come.

Now when someone doesn't like what I say on social media or in these emails, I don't care.

My mission is not to coddle you with nice words and tell you it's ok to skip a workout or it's ok to be lazy or to avoid confronting your demons.

No

It's not ok.

If you don't like what I say, you can unsubscribe at any time.

It's a great feeling to be able to say that now.

I no longer rely on being liked or accepted or feel afraid of being totally honest and blunt.

You want results or you don't.

There's no in-between.

I no longer have time for excuses.

I've made plenty in my life, I'm far from perfect

But I know for a fact, excuses just mean you don't want it bad enough.

How bad do you want it?
