Carbs are bad/fats are bad/ protein is for meatheads and too much is bad for you.
The world of diet and nutrition is full of bs.
It's a HUGE industry that makes over 20 billion a year.
There are so many myths and so much conflicting information that it can be hard to find a plan you can believe in and get results from.
You need a balance of all 3 macronutrients. Protein, carbs and fats. You also need water and the micronutrients (vitamins and minerals)
If your goal is to burn fat and build a strong, lean physique you need to focus on eating for fuel.
Depending on your age, history, occupation, activity level and lifestyle you will need to adjust how many carbs per day.
Generally guys should include carbs more on days of hard training, and less carbs on rest days or low-intensity cardio days.
Carbs will not make you fat.
You need carbs to fuel training and to enhance recovery and to replenish glycogen stores. The majority of your carbs should come from sources like oats, beans, rice, potatoes. Once in awhile you can mix in some fast digesting carbs but don't rely on them daily.
Fats won't make you fat either.
This myth has lost some power in recent years due to the rise of the paleo style diets. The high-fat crowd has brought to light the importance of fats for health, hormonal balance, satiety, and energy.
Just like with carbs, no need to go extreme here. Get in a good amount that will help you achieve your goal of a strong, lean body. Good sources include coconut oil, eggs, meats, natural peanut butter and other nut butters, nuts, avocado, extra virgin olive oil.
Get a nice balance of all the required nutrients and don't listen to all the bs out there. Speaking of bs out there, tomorrow we will dive into a big mistake busy guys make when trying to get back into shape.
I hope that clears up some of the confusion on the old myths of carbs/fats and which one is bad for you.
The answer is NEITHER.
Include a balance of all three macronutrients, regardless of your goals.
