Maybe you've been told you need to drink a protein shake immediately after your workout?
If you've been in a commercial gym, you've probably seen the guys who run to the shake bar the minute they complete their last rep of bicep curls..
Every supplement company wants you to believe that you NEED their product. Of course they do, their business depends on it.
I'm not saying there is no benefit to any supplement, including protein powders.
What I want to point out is that you don't NEED them, even though they have some benefits.
Since I like to keep things simple, here's an easy way to determine if you need a protein shake---
YES, a protein shake will benefit you if:
1- You don't eat enough protein from food.
2- A protein shake keeps you on track with your nutrition/training.
3- You enjoy them.
NO, a protein shake is not necessary for you if:
1- You consume enough protein from foods. (meat, fish, dairy)
2- You don't like the taste of shakes.
3- Want to save money. $$$
That's it?
Yep, it's that simple.
I know it's hard to make sense of all the noise we read on the internet or see in magazines, especially in regards to diet, exercise and supplements.
Just know that there is no magic supplement, dietary trick or exercise program that will magically transform you overnight. (you know this, of course)
But the marketing industry works for a reason. They prey on emotions. What are we worried about. What will we pay money for?
If you see something that seems too good to be true----- it probably is.
If you need help making sense of nutrition, I have a free ebook called "Nutrition Hacks for Busy Men."
