Top 5 Reasons to Hire a Personal Trainer
I was skeptical.
For years I had trained myself. In the early years, I followed workout programs from magazines or picked up bits and pieces from bigger, stronger guys at the gym. Then came the internet and all the awesome (some not so much) routines and information available.
So when it came time to work out with a personal trainer, I was nervous. I didn't know what to expect. Why should I be nervous? I had been training in gyms for well over 10 years and I knew my way around a gym.
But still, I was nervous. The unknown has a way of shaking up the nerves.
I was introduced to my trainer by a friend and he was well-respected. He had built a solid reputation for himself as a guy who gets results. I had to see what the fuss was about.
And I'm glad I did. I learned quite a bit from that session. I got valuable tips on form that helped my lifts instantly.
Also the pace of the workout was much higher than I was accustomed to and made me realize I could work harder and be more efficient.
When I decided to become a personal trainer I thought back to that session and how I felt before it and how different I felt about personal training after it. With that in mind I want to share with you my top 5 reasons for working with a fitness coach and how personal training can help accelerate your strength and fitness pursuits.
1- Direction
Maybe you had some success at times One program worked for a month. You had a training partner for two months and you had some progress. But never sustained.
Having a personal trainer will help guide you through the times where you are stagnant. A personal trainer has seen this before. He/she knows how to get past the plateau. You will save yourself time and frustration by letting a personal trainer guide you.
2- Just Do It
Sure you can come up with your own program or search online for one. But you don't want to think.
You already have enough to worry about. Your brain is full. When you get out of work, you need to hit the gym. You just want to be told how to achieve the result you're after.
Saves time and energy and takes the stress off you.
3- Accountability
How much progress have you made lately?
A good personal trainer can give you tips to improve your fitness quickly.
If you have had no results on your own, you may need more than just a generic workout.
You may need lifestyle guidance. Beyond just the workouts. Nutrition, sleep, recovery methods, stretching, cardio. How to build a fitness habit.
4- Proper Form to Prevent Injury
To reduce the risk of injury you need to know how to perform exercises. If you only use machines because they seem safer and easier to use, then you need to step out of your comfort zone.
Trouble is, you don't know how to start. A personal trainer can watch your movement and assess any weaknesses and make adjustments on the spot. This sets you up to make more progress in less time with less chance of injuring yourself.
Having an injury that could be prevented can be a huge setback.
5- Variety at the Right Time for the Right Reason
It's difficult to know how to write your own program, especially long-term. You may end up doing the same things or you may change too many things at once.
Get an outsider to look at your program and assess your body. A good personal trainer will know how to adapt your routine to maximize your time in the gym.
He/she will know how to help you work smarter in the gym and gets to your goal faster than you would on your own. The critical eye of a personal trainer is a great asset. Even though no one likes to be critiqued, you will learn more in a few sessions than you ever would on your own.
Bonus. Learn from an expert. Anytime you can learn from someone who knows more than you about a topic and you can apply that knowledge you will be a step ahead.
There is no limit to the value you will receive.
With a good personal trainer you don't just get workouts. You get much more. You tap in to deep reservoir of knowledge and experience that goes far beyond the workout of the day.
The typical dieter makes FOUR weight loss attempts per year and usually quits within just one month.
Most people who join a gym stop going regularly within 90 days.
Most people are still looking for someone to help them to results that their own efforts, fad diets and commercial gyms have not helped them reach.
