He said you need to get serious.
She said you need to have fun.
I tried them both and every combination between and came to a different conclusion:
Serious play.
Some examples over the past two decades...
Elimination diet- I was serious about finding out if there were certain foods that my body had unfavorable reactions to. I viewed it as a fun experiment. I learned quite a bit about my body in relation to nutrition in this month.
Intense/extreme training programs- I went ALL-IN with these crazy ideas to see how my body would respond. I took notes and approached this time as if it was another fun experimental process. I learned much from these wild ideas also.
Daily walks- broken up into three short walks or one long trek. Serious about finding out, but taking each step as a learning experience.
There were many other examples of this serious/play but all of them have a few things in common. Mainly that they were self-guided attempts to discover something. To learn about my body and mind without being tethered to a concept or idea from anyone else.
So when people say you need to get serious or you should just have fun and enjoy, both can be right or maybe neither is. Maybe it's beyond those limited parameters and into a new realm altogether.
Serious play. A whole other level.
And now I am off to test some other ideas. Does my body respond better to no carbs/low carbs in the morning or the evening.. a constant experimentation. Does it change week to week? Month to month?
What other factors are involved? There's so many variables. Serious about discovering truth, playful about the methods and means to get there.
Until next time.
