When words do not motivate or inspire

"You don't realize how important your health is until you don't have it."

Have you heard that phrase before?

Is it true? Maybe. Maybe not. It's possible that your health fails and you don't live to see another day.

But what does that phrase do for you? Has it EVER inspired you to absolutely transform your life due to the fact of the words?

No.

A perfect example of why most everything on the self-help shelves and most all teachings in this world are ineffective. Not only ineffective but a waste of time.

You can nod your head and say yes, I know my health is very important, but that is not enough to radically change the course of your day to day life. That's just how human beings are wired.

Some learn this the hard way. Some never do. Some learn it and keep playing the game for whatever reason.

I'm not here to scare anyone or try to persuade anyone to take your health seriously. If you do you do. If you don't, you don't. Maybe you only want to be a bit stronger. Or to have bigger biceps.. Or you don't even know what you truly want.

What a lot of the fitness/health industry likes to do is scare you by telling you something like the phrase above. Then tell you all the details of why you need to care about your health NOW. And try to persuade you to buy their product or device.

I have programs, books and coaching services. But I don't care if you choose to take advantage of them or not. If you do, great. If you don't, great. I feel compelled to share my 2 decades PLUS of experience and you can do with it what you will. It's not my place to say.

What I find interesting is to dissect these common phrases that people use. To see if they have any relevance. Do they really work? Does scaring people help them to "wake up"? If it was guaranteed to work 99% of the time to help people, I still wouldn't use that tactic.

You know you need strength. You know you need to be fit. You know you want energy to live your life at the highest level, no matter what activity you choose to partake in. You don't need me or any other trainer or coach or doctor or anyone else to tell you what you already know.

What do you need if you feel stuck and unmotivated?

That's a great question and a topic I'm writing about extensively in my next book. You can start with the mirror. Stare that sucker down. What do you see? But not in a harsh judgment kind of way. More like chilling out back in a nice picnic chair and relaxing, watching the rabbit run in the grass and the birds hop from branch to branch. Just watching. And then go a little deeper.

Start asking yourself questions. Why am I not motivated? Why am I not inspired? Why do I have no energy? Why does my life feel stale or unsatisfying? Am I in the best shape of my life? Why not? See the mind create excuses. Watch them come up and you can watch them dissipate just the same. If you give them no power..

If you can be totally honest with yourself that will go further than any phrase a health professional can hurl at you to scare you into caring more about your health.

At the end of the day (or the beginning), it's about who you see yourself as. I see myself as a person who trains daily. Never misses a day. I see myself as strong. I can do anything in this life that I'm called to do. I see myself as full of energy I can assess at any moment of the day. I see myself as creative, I can adapt and evolve at anything.

Who/what do you see yourself as? If you don't like what you see, the natural next thought is "how can I change it?"

But before you go there, before you go try to find a quick solution.. there's more to observe and discover. Self-awareness goes a long way. Limits in the mind can be overcome. If they've been there awhile it may require some serious inquiry. But I always say anything is possible. Even if only 1 in a thousand finds a new way. It is possible.

All that being said.. time to get my bare feet in the wet grass and strengthen the feet and hands with some bodyweight training. Crawls and isometrics are on the menu.
